Introducing…

We don’t do things by halves around here!

For those who haven’t been following the Facebook and Twitter news from us, we’ve had a pretty eventful first couple of weeks with our newest addition.  To start with, Sarah decided to make things quite difficult with feeding…in that she didn’t really want to feed very much at all.  Accompanied with the crying and then lots and lots of sleeping, she was really doing our heads in – and at only a few days old!

So, this last week, our midwife came to visit and weighed her, only to discover that she wasn’t putting on weight as she should have been.  Further consultation with her and our lactation consultant, and we moved onto a pretty aggressive expressed-milk-and-bottle feeding regime.  Sarah then put on weight at a great rate of knots, and is now a lot more alert and active (as she should be).  There I was thinking that we just had a dream baby who like to sleep for 5-6 hours at a go.  Turns out the poor little thing wasn’t getting enough food to cause trouble.  :(

We were also referred to a doctor and a dental surgeon as Sarah apparently has a posterior “type 4″ tongue tie.  This means that she can’t feed properly, and that has affected Christie’s supply.  So, we’re scheduled in for Tuesday afternoon to have the tongue tie cut with a dental laser!  How 21st Century are we?  :)   This way there shouldn’t be a need for anaesthetic, the recovery time is much shorter, and there should be little to no bleeding.  :)   Your prayers would be appreciated though…

I have had a number of requests for more photos, and I’m planning to upload a bunch tomorrow, but one thing that Sarah has reminded us is that plans are at best intentions at this early stage.  :)   Also, with my return to work on Tuesday, if you want to visit during the week, you’re best to contact Christie directly.  Just FYI.  :)

Will update again soon.
