Thank God for lasagne!
What a crazy couple of weeks! I should probably start a counter for how many times I start a post with that phrase or a derivative.
But it has been.
When last I left you, we were preparing to have minor surgery with frickin’ laser beams to fix Sarah’s tongue. The good news is that the surgery was a success. Sure, it required me holding Sarah for 45 minutes while she screamed her little heart out as the (very good) doctor and his (very competent) nursing staff cut away in her mouth. Not wanting to be a drama king, but it was pretty rough to be frank with you. But we do thank the good doctor for his work and kind demeanour – not his fault that it’s not fun for the baby!
The bad news is that after plenty of effort on Christie’s part, the little munchkinette wasn’t able to figure out the whole breast-feeding scenario. Basically, since her tongue was so badly tied from birth, she just didn’t know how to use it once we fixed it. We probably could have eventually trained her…maybe…but we were running on empty as it was, and so Sarah is now a happily, formula-fed baby. Although there are still concerns from some corners about her weight, or lack thereof. I say some quarters because she still weighs more than most kids do at 2 months, but hey – gotta have something to worry about, right?
Our midwife is back to weigh her tomorrow and if she hasn’t put on weight, we’ll be seeking medical advice.
So, with all of this going on, it’s been a bit rough (and I still haven’t uploaded any more photos – sorry!) Davey is handling it all pretty well though – aside from getting hand, foot and mouth disease (again), right when he was due back at Playcentre last week, he’s been happy and healthy for the most part. A bit of regression in the ol’ toilet training seems to have been remedied by his Daddy’s genius idea of a reward chart. It backfired a bit though – when asked to choose his prize, the little munchkin responded “um…one of Daddy’s lollies!”
Christie is doing well. If you define well as being dealing with all that has gone on in the last few weeks like a total champion and superhero that amazes her husband on a daily basis. That’s how you define “well”, right?
And I’m okay too. Sleep is for the weak, so we must be pretty strong I guess.
To be honest, we’re surviving in part due to the amazing, wonderful and <<insert your favourite superlative here>> friends and family who have shown up with homecooked meals. Some from the first few days of Sarah being around, some from last week, some from Playcentre, some from church – thank you, thank you, thank you! I haven’t had so much lasagne before – I love it!
I honestly feel like a judge on a TV cooking reality show, trying out everyone’s lasagne recipe to see who goes on to the next round. All of those who have cooked for us totally do!
Be it lasagne or meatballs or chicken or cannelloni or baking or other yummy things, thank you so very much to you all!

Oh it has been rough on you guys – you poor things! It sounds like things are settling now though and I hope it only gets better for you all from here! xxx
